Beautification of Main Village Site Made Possible by Lowe’s Home Improvement

Historic Richmond Town’s Main Village encompasses 100 acres in the middle of Staten Island’s Greenbelt, where more than forty historic structures are preserved. This October, Lowe’s Home Improvement of Staten Island generously donated volunteers and supplies to perform critical site maintenance and improvements. The Staten Island Historical Society at Historic Richmond Town, a 163  year old organization, is now ready to continue to serve the 35,000 annual school children and 50,000 annual general visitors, treating them to a piece of Staten Island history.

A  volunteer team from the Lowe’s Heroes initiative, lead by Store Manager of Lowes N.W. Staten Island, Ryan Mcquilken and Stephanie Fonte, Administrative Support Associate, arrived at Historic Richmond Town, tools in hand, to complete numerous outdoor maintenance, landscaping and infrastructure projects.

Many tasks were outlined and completed in the three-day long initiative, including weeding, leaf removal, placing drainage rock around trees and rebuilding fencing. Gravel walkways, connecting the campus were installed, allowing visitors better access to the beaucalic historic village. Thanks to Lowe’s, Historic Richmond Town now has a fresh new look for fall!

The Lowe’s Heroes Project organizes teams of employee volunteers, giving them access to the materials and tools required to meet the needs of the communities where they live and work.  Since 2010, the project has given aid to those areas ravaged by natural disaster, they have worked to create, maintain, and beautify community spaces including parks, animal shelters and playgrounds.

Historic Richmond Town is in awe of the Lowe’s Heroes Project’s effective and impactful support. Thank you Lowe’s Home Improvement
