Burns Night with Linda Russell and Friends

Come celebrate the Birthday of Robert Burns with a special tavern concert featuring Scottish music, poetry, whisky and haggis! Balladeer Linda Russell and Companie will explore the life and times of Robert Burns, the ploughman and Scottish poet whose works champion love, the dignity of the common man, friendship and the beauty of the natural world. The trio is comprised of Linda on guitar and dulcimer, Christa Patton on harp and flute and Abby Newton on cello. Linda Russell explores history through song. She served as balladeer for the National Park Service at Federal Hall and now takes her music to historic sites around the country. Christa Patton, historical harpist, has toured with many early music ensembles including the Boston Camerata, Piffaro the Renaissance Band, Early Music New York, The King’s Noyse, Newberry Consort, Apollo’s Fire, Parthenia, ARTEK and Chatham Baroque and the Folger Consort. As an educator and scholar, Christa has served on the faculty of Rutgers University and the Graduate Center at CUNY. She is also the director of the Baroque Opera Workshop at Queens College, a workshop specializing in period-specific performance practice of 17th century musical drama. Abby Newton is well known for her groundbreaking work in the revival of the cello in American and Scottish traditional music. She has co-produced and performed on over a hundred folk recordings including 17 CDs with Scottish singer, Jean Redpath. Abby's solo CDs "Crossing to Scotland" and "Castles, Kirks, and Caves", have earned her critical acclaim both in the US and abroad. She has toured with her band Ferintosh throughout the UK and the US and currently plays with the Skye Trio. In addition to this special musical act which will highlight Scottish music, tavern patrons will enjoy a small Burns Dinner plate of Haggis, 'neeps and tatties' (turnips and potatoes), and a complimentary whisky tasting.
