Explore the history and diversity of harvest celebrations through New York at Historic Richmond Town's annual Thanksgiving-themed tours. This self-guided tour allows visitors to explore the story of the 1860s origins of the Thanksgiving holiday and the foodways reflected in the menu.
Visitors will experience two unique historic cooking demonstrations of rural 18th and 19th century families in the Guyon-Lake-Tysen Farmhouse and Basketmaker’s House. You will feel the warmth of the humble fires in a functioning 19th century open-hearth kitchen. Tour participants will also have a chance to enjoy sampling the food when the demonstrations are completed!
Throughout the main village you’ll learn about the mix of Native American and European ingredients that combine on Thanksgiving tables throughout the nation. We welcome tour participants to share in our guest book their holiday traditions and recipes.
Share in the traditions that shaped the American past and create memories that will last a lifetime.
