Costumed interpreters prepare holiday recipes using 19th century recipes, tools and techniques in some of Historic Richmond Town’s most beloved kitchens.
Native American and European ingredients meld together in functioning 19th century kitchens to create classic dishes that celebrate harvest, hearth and home. Share in the traditions that shaped the American past and create memories that will last a lifetime.
What you’ll see:
Museum: Participate in a self-guided Museum scavenger hunt themed for the harvest season! Take a historic recipe home with you.
General Store: Visit the General store and learn about the origin of spices and trade routes. Take your turn grinding nutmeg!
Stephens House: Tour a house built in 1838 and hear the tale of Sarah Josefa Hale’s role in the Thanksgiving holiday.
Christopher House: Discover “new” foods native to the Americas. Sample cornbread with apple butter.
Basketmakers House: Taste sweet potato and apples cooked in a Dutch oven.
Guyon-Lake Tysen House: Watch a reflector oven cook meat by an open hearth fire.
