FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Annual Richmond County Fair RETURNS to Historic Richmond Town

STATEN ISLAND, NY: On Saturday, Sept.4-Monday Sept. 6, 2021, from 12-6pm, Historic Richmond Town will host the annual Richmond County Fair. This year mark’s the organization’s 41st annual Fair; which was cancelled in 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

As Historic Richmond Town’s biggest fundraiser and a time-honored tradition of celebrating local culture and history, the absence of the Richmond County Fair resonated deeply throughout the organization and the community alike. “It has been an extremely difficult year for everyone; for our staff, as well as our friends and fans across Staten Island and beyond.” Says Historic Richmond Town’s President, Laura Gentile. “We are absolutely thrilled to be able to bring back the Richmond County Fair after the disappointment of last year’s cancellation because there can be no better celebration of community and family than the Island’sRichmond County Fair.”

The Richmond County Fair combines classic fairground favorites like food, rides, pie eating contests, live music and a flea circus, and pony rides, with a classic touch of Staten Island history by offering the public inside access to many of the site’s historic structures, and presenting demonstrations of historic trades by costumed living historians. “There is no other county fair quite like ours,” says Historic Richmond Town Executive Director & CEO, Jessica B. Phillips. “Though all of our participants, visitors and vendors alike, we celebrate both the past and present of Staten Island culture and honor what has made us unique for centuries. We are looking forward to crowds returning to our grounds to see the best of Staten Island - from the veggie contest and rides to the living history demonstrations and carnival rides. We can't wait to welcome everyone back!”

Historic Richmond Town is the most complete living history museum in New York City.  It is operated by the Staten Island Historical Society. Founded in 1856, the organization works to create opportunities for the public to explore the diversity of the American experience, especially that of Staten Island and its neighboring communities from the colonial period to the period.

Proceeds from the Richmond County Fair contribute to the preservation and restoration efforts for all 40 historic Staten Island buildings, 112 acres, and over 4 properties cared for by Historic Richmond Town. This support also helps the organization provide educational programming throughout the year to over 25,000 students.
